Dr. Eric M. Bradshaw DDS and Dr. Aliya Kassam, DDS are proud to announce the opening of Mint Dental on Monday, March 10, 2014. The office is located at 329 Rhode Island Avenue, Suite A, Northeast in Washington, DC. Office hours are Monday – Friday and weekend appointment times are also available. “We are very excited to be opening on Rhode Island Avenue,” Dr. Bradshaw said. “A smile is your calling card and a picture perfect smile is your key to good health and success. We are looking forward to helping lots of people smile more.” Mint Dental provides comprehensive preventative, cosmetic, and restorative dental services for the whole family. The office employs the latest state-of-the-are equipment in a mercury-free environment to ensure patients have access to the most comfortable dental care available. Services available include implant dentistry, Invisalign®, and Zoom® Whitening Technologies. After earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree, Dr. Bradshaw earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and completed post-graduate training in Advanced General Dentistry at Howard University College of Dentistry. He has provided dental care in several nursing homes and has participated in large, organized events, such as the Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy. Dr. Bradshaw is a member of the American Dental Association. Dr. Kassam received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Howard University College of Dentistry. She continued her post-doctoral training in Oklahoma City at OU Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital, where she received extensive training in a multitude of fields including pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and dental anesthesiology. Dr. Kassam also completed an extended rotation at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Kassam is a member of the American Dental Association. The RIA Main Street communities of Edgewood and Eckington have a new grocery store! FoodRite Discount Supermarket opened earlier this week at 2205 4th St. NE, the site of the former New Star Supermarket. We stopped in to visit earlier this week, and were thrilled to see a clean store with fresh meats and produce. One of the new owners, Amru Ousman, said they are dedicated to providing an ever-improving shopping experience. They are planning on expanding to include organic produce and a full bakery. Today’s issue of the Washington Post brings Good Ward 5 News! On Monday, Mayor Gray signed legislation authorizing $1B to bury feeder lines over the course of five to seven years. Work could begin later this year, with the RIA corridor slated for the 2nd year of the project. The DC Public Service Commission must provide final approval on a surcharge that will be billed to Pepco customers. This is in response to the “Derecho” of 2012 that left many neighborhoods without power for days. The areas targeted in this large undergrounding initiative were hit the hardest by the Derecho. While grid reliability is the primary reason for burying the power lines, this project has also been supported by many in the RIA community for aesthetic reasons, so this is great news for us. The large trees that line RIA between the RIA metro station and Eastern Avenue have been aggressively trimmed by Pepco over the years in order to reduce damage to power lines during storm events. The beautiful green canopy of trees is left looking mangled and warped. A tour of highly successful revitalization zones in DC shows that underground power lines is a key component to a successful streetscape design. A new dental practice is headed to Rhode Island Avenue NE! Eric Bradshaw, DDS, will be opening Mint Dental DC at 329 Rhode Island Ave NE. “I’m really excited about opening a practice here in my own neighborhood,” said Dr. Bradshaw, a Ward 5 resident and graduate of the Howard University College of Dentistry. Dr. Bradshaw, along with business partner Aliya Kassam, DDS, will provide general dentistry services. Dr. Kassam has advanced training in pediatric dentistry, while Dr. Bradshaw has taken numerous continuing education courses, including implant dentistry, aesthetic dentistry, and Invisalign®. He is also dedicated to meeting the needs of underserved communities, providing dental care in nursing facilities as well as participating in large, organized events such as the Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy. The new facility build-out is under way, and will include include 6 “operatories”, or procedure areas. According to Dr. Bradshaw, plumbing and electrical inspections have already finished, and after the HVAC system is installed, the walls will be finished out. They are on target for a February 1 opening. We’ll be sure to provide updates for their official opening date – stay tuned!
